Seer

The figure in the painting is taken from the opening scenes in the film ‘Amadeus’ (Milos Forman 1984), where the priest comes to visit Salieri now residing in an asylum, suffering from insane jealousy and moral confusion over Mozart’s genius. The subject is one of many lost souls encountered in the entrance hall, some more aware of their condition than others. He is in a straightjacket pondering the ceiling lost in thought or none at all. In his hand I added a paintbrush, indicating a paralysis of action, a visionary manqué.
