The earth has yielded its fruit

There is a lovely Christmas carol called Jesus the apple tree, symbolising his role as the new Adam, setting right what went wrong when Adam ate the apple in the garden of Eden. I have set my crucifixion in a typical Kent apple orchard, with the fruitful harvest of redemption already scattering the ground. Other crucifixions are taking place deeper in the orchard to reflect the almost unbearable co-existence of beauty and cruelty in the world.
